Suet, Platform, Hopper

Nesting:

Red Bellied Woodpeckers excavate nesting cavities in dead or decaying trees. Both parents help dig the cavity and raise the young.

Identification:

A medium sized woodpecker with bold black and white barred wings and back. Males have red extending from the bill to the back of the head, while females have red only on the back of the head and neck. The pale gray face and long chisel like bill help distinguish this species.

Song Description:

A loud rolling “churr” call along with sharp tapping and drumming sounds on tree trunks and branches.

How to Attract:

• Offer suet or peanut based seed blends
• Provide sunflower seeds or peanuts
• Install suet feeders on trees or feeder poles
