Description:
The White-throated Sparrow is a familiar winter visitor in many backyards, often seen scratching through leaves and feeding on the ground beneath feeders. These birds are especially common in brushy areas and woodland edges.

Nesting:
White-throated Sparrows build cup shaped nests on or near the ground in dense vegetation, often hidden beneath shrubs or low branches.
Identification:
A medium sized sparrow with a bold white throat, yellow spots between the eyes and bill, and a striped head. The head stripes can be either white or tan depending on the individual. Males and females look very similar.
Song Description:
A clear, whistled song often described as “old sam peabody peabody peabody.”
How to Attract:
• Scatter seed on the ground or use platform feeders
• Offer millet or mixed seed blends
• Maintain brushy areas and leaf litter for cover
• Provide fresh water in bird baths
Fun Fact:
White-throated Sparrows have two color morphs, white-striped and tan-striped, and they often choose mates of the opposite morph.
